This print is inspired by the Memphis Group from the 1980s/early 1990s. This Italian interior design movement is characterised by loud patterns, graphic prints with blocks in primary colours. The shapes, patterns and furnishings derive from pop art in contrast to the sleek and boring designs from the 1970s. Maruti gives this a twist of its own; the geometric and bold prints remain, but then in furry black and white pastel shades.
This print features simple, fine lines that are repeated all-over. As the lines have been drawn by hand one at a time, it looks like small stripes have been drawn on the shoe with a marker. However, it is in fact a print impressed on cow leather which gives these shoes a spontaneous and original look.
In addition to innovation in prints, Maruti has also designed new textures for the fabric such as perforated and laser-cut leather. The collection also features coloured pony hair for the first time!
Keep your feet cool this summer. The small holes in the leather give you a breezy feeling. You can still have the dressed look of leather, but with a much airier design. This gives a simple outfit a sporty-meets-punky look and allows you to play with layers of colour.
A new technique for Maruti is laser cutting super tiny pieces of leather, resulting in a playful “hairy leather” effect. A new type of fur is created. This beautiful fabric is used for summer lace-up shoes and slip-ons in pastel and metallic shades.
